I was very pleased to join up with two artist friends - Penny McLean and Rob Gobel - to be part of an exhibition called 'Three Journeys'. This will be held at Bridlington Spa from 1st August to 2nd September. The Spa is open daily and admission to the exhibition is free. It would be lovely to see you there but if you are planning to visit please contact me so I can make sure I will be there to meet you. Normally I like to produce a complete new set of works for an exhibition but this is slightly different. In line with the theme I have included several earlier paintings that I have never exhibited before though there are some new works too so you can discover my happy and exciting art journey. This painting is my personal favourite of my show and is the last one in the ‘Riverbank’ triage. It's one of those that take on a life of their own. Sharp eyed viewers will notice that I have painted that oddly shaped tree before – it overhangs a quiet stream in a small village called Brompton-by-Sawdon. For this painting I have widened the stream into a river so I could highlight the shady bank against the hot summer scene in the background. When I started to paint the foliage on the trees it became almost hypnotic and the leaves appeared to be gently moving in a river borne breeze. I was so pleased with the result that I decided to replicate the colours in the river using different marks with the brush. Ripples started to appear and the river began to flow so I am very well pleased with this ‘impressionist’ painting.
